Two hairdressers named Sue became best friends.
And Sooz was born.
SUSANNE MAURO / SUE AMALFI
Susanne: We started Sooz in 1996. We were both asked to be models at a hair show and that’s where we first met. The rest is history!
Sue: When I first started out, I thought hairdressing would be all about fashion. After all these years, I’ve realized it’s really about being a part of my clients’ lives—through the happy times—the births, graduations and weddings, as well as the sad times and losses.
Susanne: The best thing about coming to work is sharing the day with a team of creative, talented people. And being able to laugh and enjoy the day!
Sue: I’ve always loved to study the way people look and then get creative about helping them look even better.
Susanne: My biggest inspiration comes from simple, beautiful old-school fashion. It’s really the foundation to everything.
Sue: I love the intimacy of what we do. There is something very special that happens when you’re physically close to people. Somehow the vulnerability comes out.
Susanne: We genuinely love our people and making our clients feel at home and I think that shows in the work we do—and the environment we do it in.
Sue: I love what I do. And getting to do it with my best friend makes it even better.
Susanne: Aww, same here!
